10 Sep: Explore Bishkek
Morning: The Alpine Escape (8:30 AM – 1:00 PM)
Take a morning trip to Chunkurchak Gorge, which sits just 45 minutes south of the city center. While Ala-Archa is spectacular, Chunkurchak offers a completely different, softer landscape of rolling green foothills, steep cliffs, and deep valleys.
8:30 AM – The Ride Up: Use the Yandex Go app to hail a private ride out of the city, or pre-arrange a driver through your hotel. The drive climbs quickly into the mountains, offering sweeping views of the Chuy Valley below.
9:30 AM – The Sky Bridge & Walk: Visit the Sky Bridge, a dramatic suspension bridge strung across a deep rocky chasm. Crossing it provides a fantastic rush of adrenaline and an unmatched view of the canyon floor. Afterwards, take a light 1-hour walk along the mountain ridges.
11:30 AM – Early Lunch at Supara Chunkurchak: Head to this stunning ethno-resort built seamlessly into the mountainside. Their restaurant is housed inside a massive, beautifully crafted structure. Order a pot of hot mountain herbal tea, some fresh Kattama (flaky local flatbread served with rich cream), and traditional grilled meats while breathing in the crisp mountain air.
1:00 PM: Head back down the mountain to the capital.
Afternoon: Markets & Leafy Boulevards (2:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
Bishkek is a incredibly green city, laid out on a grid that is highly walkable, shaded by massive rows of mature oak and elm trees.
2:00 PM: Sensory Immersion at Osh Bazaar
Dive into the chaotic, vibrant heart of the city. Head straight to the central food pavilion to see massive pyramids of local walnuts, dried apricots, prunes, and local mountain honey. Don't miss the back rows where artisans sell traditional Kyrgyz felt goods, embroidered slippers, and shyrdak carpets—it is the best place in the country to pick up authentic, high-quality souvenirs.
4:00 PM – The Specialty Coffee Break: Bishkek has a world-class specialty coffee culture. Head to a central café like Koloko (known for its excellent signature drinks, quiet music, and cozy bookshelves) or Sierra Coffee on Manas Avenue to unwind, people-watch, and enjoy a high-quality pour-over.
5:00 PM – The Erkindik Stroll: Walk down Erkindik Boulevard (Freedom Avenue). This is a massive, park-like avenue running straight through the center of the city, shaded by a double canopy of trees. It is where locals come to walk, talk, and buy ice cream from street carts. Follow it north until you hit Ala-Too Square to view the brutalist Soviet architecture and the massive monument to the legendary hero Manas.
Evening: The Ritual & The Feast (6:30 PM onward)
6:30 PM – The Local Bathhouse Experience: Before dinner, do what locals do to wash away travel fatigue: visit Zhirgal Banya. This historic public bathhouse features a striking, massive domed ceiling. Spend an hour moving between the intense dry heat of the Russian sauna, a traditional scrub, and the freezing plunge pools. It is a deeply authentic, restorative experience.
8:00 PM – Dinner at Navat: Celebrate your final evening in the country at Navat, one of the city's premier traditional restaurants. The interior is heavily decorated with colorful local textiles, tapestries, and low wooden tables. Order a large plate of Lagman (hand-pulled noodles topped with spicy meat and vegetables) or Manti (steamed dumplings filled with spiced meat), paired with local bread and a final pot of green tea.
11 Sep: Bishkek to Karakol (Northern Shore of Issyk-Kul)
Morning: Meet our private driver and begin the scenic drive east toward Karakol (~5–6 hours).
On the Way: The route traces the Northern Shore of massive Lake Issyk-Kul. We may stop in Cholpon-Ata to stretch our legs and wander through the ancient open-air petroglyphs, or grab lunch overlooking the water.
Evening: Arrive in Karakol (~1,700m / 5,500 ft). Check into our family-run guesthouse, rest up, and enjoy a hearty dinner.
Lodging is TBD
12 Sep: Karakol Prep & Acclimatization
Morning/Afternoon: Explore Karakol's unique cultural sights. Walk to the wooden Holy Trinity Orthodox Church and the pagoda-style Dungan Mosque.
Preparation: Buy any favorite trail snacks (dried fruits and nuts from the local market are excellent). If you plan to leave your large luggage at the guesthouse, pack your smaller trail pack for the mountains.
Evening: Enjoy a relaxing dinner in town. (Try Ashlan-Fu, Karakol's famous cold, spicy Dungan noodle soup, or some hearty local lamb stew).
13 Sep: Journey to Eco Yurt Camp Arashan
Morning: Meet your pre-arranged 4x4 Russian vehicle (like a UAZ or Kamaz truck) in Karakol. The road up the Ak-Suu gorge into the Altyn Arashan valley is notoriously rugged and bumpy—taking about 2 hours to cover 30 km.
Alternative: If we prefer to hike, we’ll have the 4x4 drop us at the entrance of the gorge and enjoy a gorgeous 4–5 hour trek up along the rushing Arashan River.
Afternoon: Arrive at Eco Yurt Camp Arashan (~2,600m / 8,500 ft). Settle into your cozy yurt and take a gentle walk through the surrounding pine forests.
Evening: Dinner in the heated dining yurt, followed by a long soak in the natural, mineral-rich thermal hot springs right near the camp
14 Sep: Day Hike – Foot of Peak Palatka
All Day: Head south, tracking deeper into the valley. The trail is wide, open, and offers a gentle, rolling climb through alpine meadows. It takes you right out to the dramatic, glaciated south wall of Peak Palatka (known as the "Tent" peak because of its distinct triangular, snowy shape).
Stats: Very flexible; roughly 14–18 km round trip (5–6 hours) with moderate, easy-to-manage elevation gain.
Evening: Return to camp, warm up by the wood stove, and enjoy another restorative hot spring soak.
15 Sep: Day Hike – Push to Ala-Kul Pass Vantage
All Day: This is your big, challenging alpine day. You’ll head up the steep lateral valley branching off from Arashan, climbing above the tree line toward the high-altitude Ala-Kul Pass (~3,900m / 12,800 ft).
The Reward: Standing on the pass or the high ridge line rewards you with an extraordinary view down to the turquoise, glacial waters of Ala-Kul Lake nestled among the jagged, snow-capped peaks.
Stats: Strenuous and steep; ~7–9 hours round trip. Take your time, pack plenty of water, and enjoy the incredible alpine terrain.
Evening: Celebrate your trek back at the yurt camp with a hot meal and a peaceful night under the stars
16 Sep: Side Valley Wander or Relaxed Morning
Morning/Afternoon: Because we aren't rushed, we’ll use today as a flexible day.We can hike up to the rushing Sharkyratma Waterfall, explore the quiet side valleys to the east where we're likely to be entirely alone, or simply relax around the camp with a book and a soak.
Evening: Our final night in the Altyn Arashan valley.
17 Sep: Return to Karakol via Jeti-Oguz
Morning: Take the 4x4 transport back down the rugged canyon road to Karakol (or hike down).
Afternoon: Collect your main luggage from your Karakol guesthouse. Have your driver take you on a short afternoon detour to the Jeti-Oguz Gorge to see the striking, bright red sandstone rock formations known as the "Seven Bulls" and the "Broken Heart."
Evening: Return to Karakol for a comfortable night in a warm bed with a hot shower.
18 Sep: Karakol to Bishkek (Southern Shore & Mars Landscapes)
Morning: Begin the journey back to Bishkek, but this time drive along the quieter, more dramatic Southern Shore of Lake Issyk-Kul.
Midday: Stop at Skazka (Fairytale) Canyon. Spend an hour wandering through the surreal, eroded red clay castles and labyrinthine paths that look like a miniature Martian landscape set against the deep blue backdrop of the lake.
Evening: Arrive in Bishkek, check into your hotel, and enjoy a modern dinner in the capital.
19 Sep: Depart for Islamabad
This morning we will have a very early departure for Islamabad
